Church of England suspends all services

indexALL church services have been suspended from Tuesday 17 March in the battle to stem the spread of coronavirus.

It is understood that funerals and weddings can still go ahead, but the initial advice is that these should be scaled back as much as possible.

It is hoped that church buildings will remain open as places of prayer for the community, observing social distancing recommendations and that clergy can maintain the ancient pattern of daily prayer and the eucharist.

For more details about the announcement see https://www.churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2020/20-march/news/uk/c-of-e-suspends-all-services-though-churches-to-stay-open

Snowdrop Sunday – 23 February

TBChurchyardSnowdrops

Following flooding caused by Storm Dennis Temple Balsall’s popular celebration of the first signs of spring will now be taking place a week later than planned on Sunday 23 February from 2 to 5pm. Visitors can enjoy the spectacle of the snowdrop carpet around the churchyard and gardens, along with tours and information about this interesting plant of which many variations can be spotted by the Galanthus enthusiast.

The nursery bed in the Walled Garden features less well known snowdrop variants including some local specialities.

Refreshments will be available in the famous Old Hall of the Knights Templar and the 14th century St Mary’s Church will be open as usual.

An interesting introduction to the history and varieties of snowdrops is available here: Snowdrop Sunday Handout 2020  (PDF)
